The success of Irish whiskeys was unbroken and it was sold rapidly in the British colonies of West India and the United States.
The big slump came from various events. In Ireland, punishments for illegal liquor and whiskey distillation were imposed, and there was a massive anti-alcohol movement, which led to a drastic decline in the distilleries. A new whiskey manufacturing process was introduced in Scotland and new brands were created. The Scottish distilleries knew how to take advantage of the weakness of Irish competition.
At the beginning of the 1960s, Irish whiskey was practically no longer exported. It has only been on the rise in recent years. The number of distilleries has doubled since 2014.
Irish Whiskey Varieties & Brands
Irish Whiskey is divided into Single Malt Irish Whiskey, Grain Whiskey, Blended Irish Whiskey and Pot Still Whiskey. They have three things in common, which makes Irish whiskey mild.
Single Malt Irish Whiskey: This whiskey comes from only one distillery and is therefore not a mixture of different types of whiskey. In addition, the single malt is made exclusively from malted barley. Each malt has its own character, which is significantly influenced by the burning process and the storage. No malt tastes like the other.
